When can PDR repair a bumper and when does the bumper need to be replaced?
When can PDR repair a bumper and when does the bumper need to be replaced?

The first thing to understand is that there are two types of bumpers. On most cars and SUV’s, you have what is called a bumper cover, which is plastic. It covers the actual steel bumper that is underneath of it. Many times, this will be damaged in a fender bender or a collision. It can be dented, and as long as the plastic isn't ripped, then the dent in the bumper can be massaged out. Through our paintless dent repair process we use heat and specialized tools to remove the damage created. Our pdr technicians are able to push the plastic back out to its original shape.
The bumper would have to be replaced if the plastic is ripped when the damage occurs. Once the plastic is ripped or all of the clips that hold the bumper cover onto the car have been torn, then you'd have to replace that bumper cover. For paintless dent repair to be possible, the bumper must not be ripped. A conventional body shop may be able to provide some remedy for making a repair of this sort, but it eliminates the option for pdr. If the paint is damaged, we can still use dent repair to correct the issue.
The other type of bumper, which you almost always find on trucks, is an all-metal bumper. An all-metal bumper does require a whole different type of dent repair using PDR or paintless dent repair. It's similar, but that steel for those bumpers is much stronger than the metal on the actual vehicle. Because of this, you need someone with the specialized pdr tools to properly perform the dent repair. The metal is so strong that it can sometimes require hydraulic presses to complete the pdr on the bumper damage. In many instances, you will have to replace an all-metal bumper after a collision. The bumper’s job is to protect the vehicle from a collision and when it has done its job correctly, repairing the bumper may be out of the question. Our pdr technicians has many years of experience using paintless dent repair to fix all kinds of damage and we are always happy to take a look at your dent repair and give you an accurate assessment of what options are available to you for bumper repair.
For SUV's, the bumpers are most often the same as those found on cars with plastic covers. Again, as long as the plastic isn't ripped or the clips that hold it into place haven't been torn off of the cover, then we can repair the dent using paintless dent removal. The process includes using specialized heat tools to warm up that plastic which makes it a little more malleable allowing our pdr team to reverse the damage by pushing the dent back out, basically in the same way that the dent was push into the bumper. Paintless dent repair has revolutionized the options available for dent repair needs. Before pdr, the only for bumper repair was using a auto body shop which meant bondo, filler, and paint for a small dent repair that forever change the value of your vehicle. Paintless dent removal means we will restore your vehicle to its original, pre-damaged, condition more quickly than a conventional repair while maintaining the value of your vehicle. Simply put, with pdr it is like the damage never happened in the first place!
