PDR and Electric Vehicles
PDR and Electric Vehicles

More and more, it seems that the manufacturers are developing electric vehicles for our domestic market, whether it be Tesla or Audi or Porsche or Ford, Chevy and Dodge. So many of the manufacturers are coming out with electric vehicles that are new to our market. Here at American Dent Specialists, we are a five-star rated paintless dent repair (pdr) certified company that has also gone the extra mile when it comes to electric vehicles. To be prepared to properly work on your electric vehicles and smart cars, we acquired our power down certification to keep both our team and your vehicle safe in the dent repair process.
Electric vehicles have a battery core and power cables that run throughout the vehicle. It's very important to understand where these cables run because in the pdr process we are using a variety of sharp metal tools to repair dents in vehicles from the underside of the panel. If one of these pdr tools punctures or pierces an electric conduction cable in an electric vehicle, then not only can the car be heavily damaged, but the PDR technician could be killed. If one of these cables is punctured and the DC current travels through the PDR tool into the technician, it will travel at 600 - 680 DC, which is enough to kill a human being. At American Dent Specialists, we can safely power down an electric vehicle, making it completely harmless for the PDR technician to work on. Once the dent repair is complete, we can power up the vehicle per the manufacturer’s specs. Our allocated power down station inside of our shop allows our pdr technicians to safely take dents and dings out of electric vehicles without damaging the vehicle or putting our dent repair technicians in harm’s way in the process.
The risk of working on electric vehicles without properly powering down the vehicle poses a risk not only to the technician working on the vehicle, but also is a risk our pdr shop as a whole. If electric vehicle pdr repairs are done incorrectly, the power from the EV battery could ignite a fire powerful enough to burn the shop to the ground. American Dent Specialists prides itself in continued education and staying abreast of all the latest techniques and dent repair processes in our industry so that we can constantly work with the newest technology on the newest models of vehicle, continuing to provide our five-star service throughout Houston, Texas, Katy, Cypress, and the surrounding areas.
